As an alternative to the traditional engagement ring, Mikimoto uses a pearl as the centerpiece and embellishes with diamonds or other gems (from $1,000).

Mimi So International, Llc.

Mimi So creates modern gems that are on-trend and very wearable. Everything is exquisitely crafted in her New York City studio. Platinum-and-diamond floral rings start at $2,620. For those who wish to splurge on a traditional design, a round, 1.26-carat brilliant-cut diamond set in platinum goes for $12,000.

Mish New York

Socialites adore designer Mish Tworkowski’s bright creations. Highlights include sweet eighteen-karat gold bamboo-shaped bands and an eighteen-karat white-gold version with a circle of raised stars. Prices upon request.

Movado

Though better known for its signature watches, Movado has modern, simple engagement rings with up to three patented 114-facet diamonds set on a band of platinum or eighteen-karat gold (starting at $3,995).

New York Wedding Ring

Clients can describe any vision to owner Sam Abbay, and then bend, solder, and polish their own creation at this wedding band studio. It’s $850 for the first day of class and $80 an hour for subsequent days. Customers usually pay from $1,200 to $5,000 for a pair of bands, or $1,500 to $10,000 for an engagement ring. Niwaka

Niwaka’s sleek designs come in white, pink, and yellow gold as well as platinum. Prices begin at $500 for a simple yellow-gold band, and top out at $15,000 for a one-carat diamond engagement ring in a platinum setting.

Norman Landsberg

Connoisseur of the elusively flawless diamond, Landsberg has more than 1,000 styles of engagement rings to choose from, featuring designers like Verragio, Martin Flyer, and Gregg Ruth. Engagement rings start at $2,500.

Piaget

Romantics like the symbolism of Piaget’s Possession Ring, the most popular of which has seven diamonds (for good luck) on a pair of intertwined bands (from $1,700).

Pomellato

Pomellato sells rings in vivid colors ($2,000 to $17,000), large semiprecious-stone drop earrings ($2,000 to $8,000), and fashionable pieces like the jet-tooth and gold-link Victoria pendant necklace ($5,160).

Reinstein/Ross

The store’s distinctive, handmade matte wedding rings of platinum or gold (of 18, 20 or 22 karats) have an old-world quality, but they’re funky enough for brides with offbeat tastes. Gold bands start at $450.

Roslyn specializes in re-creating vintage jewelry. Custom design is available, as are authentic, classic Art Deco pieces. Simple gold bands start at $500; more complex settings cost up to $50,000.
