APC’s hip button-down shirts, ties, and suits are perfect for a casual outdoor wedding or honeymoon. Clothes are generally classic and trim, with a narrow European-style fit. The black thin-alpaca suit is a classic option for more formal affairs (jacket, $530; pants, $227).

This Hong Kong import caters to the mature, conservative man. Though the boutique offers prêt-à-porter (from $2,950), most who ascribe to its detail-oriented aesthetic prefer to have their tuxes made to order (from $2,600).

How many stores can boast of having fit no fewer than ten American presidents for tuxedos? This shop uses high-quality wool to make its elegant formalwear, but the prices remain reasonable—the most expensive tux is $1,500.

You can rent ($100 to $230) or buy ($450 to $1,200) all manner of formal attire in this welcoming store, where you’ll find everything from morning suits to tuxedos from designers like Givenchy and Charles Jourdan.

Barneys New York

Barneys offers limitless tuxedo choices for discerning grooms, from skinny designer tuxedos to classic rigs with all the fixings. Popular options include a single-breasted, notched-lapel Gucci tux ($2,390) and a soft-shoulder two-button Isaia getup ($2,995). Picky grooms will appreciate the six different fits and full line of made-to-measure gear. Tuxedos are $1,395 to $5,600.

Bergdorf Goodman Men's

Old-school styling meets cosmopolitan flair at Bergdorf, one of New York’s most fail-safe menswear options. Designers include Valentino and Armani, and Bergdorf also has a full line of made-to-order. The most popular tux is a single-button grosgrain peak by Brioni ($4,995).

There are hundreds of suits and sports jackets to browse through in this store for guys who like to mix and match. For more formal moments (such as the big day), pick up a tux by Canali, Hugo Boss, or Armani (from $695).

Brioni

Make like James Bond and report to the altar decked out in 007’s designer of choice (Brioni routinely outfits the various James Bonds in their appearances onscreen). The brand’s narrow Italian cuts are famous for their clean silhouettes and pinstripes galore. Choose a lapel and a cut, and it will be ready in six to eight weeks (from $6,200).

This perennial American favorite simplifies tux-buying by offering four styles: notch, shawl, double-breasted, and peak lapel ($900 to $1,200). There’s a host of preppy blazers and slacks for less formal weddings; in the fall, look for a special exclusive in-store line by impeccable designer Thom Browne. Alterations can be ready in three to four days.

Burberry

The fashion crowd is gaga for Burberry Prorsum, a casual but trendy collection. Grooms looking for more-formal attire can pick up one of the traditional tuxedos (from $895).

New Yorkers crowd this discount department store to find great looks that won’t break their budget (everything is 35 to 75 percent off retail prices). Look for lines like Hugo Boss and Kenneth Cole, and come prepared to fight the crowds.
