Miho Kosuda, Ltd.

Kosuda and her daughter, Carol, specialize in simple, elegant floral designs consisting of one flower in abundance. The Victorian bouquet, an arrangement made to look like one single rose, is fashioned from almost 50 rose petals (from $350). Kosuda is especially big among fashion-industry types—Bill Blass was her first fan. Bouquets from $250.

Mille Fiori Floral Design

In 1987, after René Hofstede emigrated from Holland, he delivered clothes to Giorgio Armani’s store and occasionally dropped off a bouquet. Soon, Hofstede was designing for Armani execs as well as for Tina Brown, Conan O’Brien, and Donatella Versace. Centerpieces start at $150; bouquets are $150 to $600.

Ovando

Mexican designer Sandra de Ovando has a love of bright colors and a distinctly sculptural style, and containers are not always necessary. Her arrangements are elegant and artsy. She might create a ball of roses on a pillow of petals or a fleet of calla lilies standing at attention as if in a queue. Centerpieces and bouquets start at $150.

Philip Baloun Studio Designs

A favorite for all kinds of high-society events, the late Baloun—who passed away in July 2007¬—was a remarkable party designer in the city. Currently, his studio can re-create his dramatic bouquets using massive arrangements of blossoms, branches and candles. Centerpieces and bouquets start at $175.

Polux Fleuriste

This quaint blue-and-white-tiled shop brings Parisian luxury to New York. The arrangements are monochromatic, with textural flourishes like twigs of rosemary and eucalyptus that seem to grow unchecked out of antique crates and old apothecary bottles. Bouquets and centerpieces average $120, but this florist will also do simpler—or more elaborate—work.

Posy Floral Design

With a shared passion for flowers, former landscape architect Paula Duarte and former restaurant owner Stamos Arakas joined forces to create Posy. They use primarily clear, square, glass containers and tight bunches of flowers. This high-end florist can acquire almost anything, from lavish luminaries to custom tablecloths. Bouquets start at $150; centerpieces at $100.

Preston Bailey Entertainment & Set Design, Inc.

Preston Bailey, a big name in floral design (he’s designed weddings for Matt Lauer and Donald Trump), won’t even talk about prices until it’s been decided that he’s doing the wedding and all details have been set in stone (in other words, if you have to ask . . .). He has a flair for the dramatic: glass vases on floral pedestals and table shades out of rose petals.

Prudence Designs

Grayson Handy and Arturo Quintero generally cater to those looking for something a little funky—though Prudence Designs has also done its share of grand, over-the-top weddings. The pair does full wedding planning as well. Centerpieces start at $200; bouquets from $150.

Raquel Corvino

Corvino uses the season and environment as her guiding inspiration when working with couples to select the finest flowers for her monochromatic architectural arrangements. For Gwen Stefani’s 2007 post–Fashion Week dinner, she evoked the singer’s favorite hue with masses of deep-burgundy dahlias and blood-red roses. Centerpieces start at $300; bridal bouquets at $250.
