Alice's Tea Cup

This relative newcomer to the baking scene specializes in imaginative designs with cute flowers and flourishes. Resident cake designer Collette Foley (who also has her own cake company) prepares bright creations that remain in high demand. Prices start at $9.50 a slice.

April Reed Cake Design

If Audrey Hepburn were a cake, she’d be one of April Reed’s. Stunningly elegant, Reed’s designs come with accents of Mokuba ribbon, handrolled truffles, and handmade flowers like anemones, sweetpeas, and magnolia blossoms. A true collaborator, Reed helps couples envision their ideal cake. Her process? She sketches; they taste. Order six months in advance; cakes start at $800.

Bijoux Doux Specialty Cakes

Best known for her intricate, Victorian-style cakes, Ellen Baumwoll also produces more whimsical designs (think: chocolate curls and valentine hearts). Prices start at $9 to $12 per serving, and fillings run the gamut from traditional buttercream to hazelnut truffle; cakes can be covered in fondant, marzipan, or ganache.

Cake Alchemy

Lauri Ditunno trained at the Culinary Institute of America and it paid off: her “Orchid Ambiance” was named one of the “50 Most Beautiful Cakes” by Brides magazine. Cake Alchemy specializes in blending unique flavors to each couples’ taste. Prices start at $9 per serving.

Cakeline

Cynthia Peithman offers romantic styles with edible lace, flowers, pearls, and beading (in the usual flavors, plus almond génoise, lemon poppy seed, and coconut). Fillings are flavored ganaches, mousses, or buttercreams ($8 to $16 per serving).

Cake Man Raven

With client-friends ranging from George Pataki to Lena Horne, this Harlem-born baker and designer has built a reputation on lip-smacking confections such as his famous red-velvet cake. Consultation fee is $50, and delivery charge is based on the wedding’s location. Prices start at $10 per serving.

The Cake Studio

Four years ago, Jill Adams set up her cozy cake shop in Williamsburg. She eschews traditional designs for imaginative cakes that often follow asymmetrical patterns, keeping details to a minimum. For weddings, her team will generally pair chocolate or vanilla batter with a more exotic dulce de leche or coconut filling. Prices start at $10 per guest.

Ceci-Cela Patisserie

This Nolita café is renowned for its exquisite French delicacies. They’ll do anything from white buttercream confections to the French croquembouche, but the Pear William (a light vanilla sponge cake with a pear vanilla cream filling) is Ceci’s thing. Cakes start at $7 per slice.

Cheryl Kleinman Cakes

From Kleinman, Brides and grooms should expect streamlined shapes covered with smooth fondant or marzipan icing and adorned with sugar flowers. Cakes come in ten flavors, from old-fashioned banana to hazelnut-almond, with assorted fillings ($9 to $12 per serving).

Colette's Cakes

Acclaimed baker Colette Peters will create a couple’s ideal wedding cake—even if that means something shaped like a skyscraper or gussied up with Swarovski crystals. Fillings include chocolate truffle and buttercream with jam (from $13 per serving).

This culinary pro turns out stunning, polished cakes. Her confections range from regal, classic affairs bedecked with beautiful flowers to creative creations with cool, modern twists. Particularly striking is her square cake with abstract chartreuse stripes. Prices start at $13.
