The original goal of Adampluseve designer Adam Lippes was to make the perfect T-shirt. That was three years ago, when the line started out with soft, refined basics for men and women. They were certainly comfortable, but hardly fashion-y, which was a little surprising considering Lippes is the former creative director for Oscar de la Renta. Now, Lippes has renamed the line (just adam) and has reinvented it as a fully thought-out sportswear collection. The first new ADAM store (678 Hudson St., nr. 13th St.; 212-229-2838) has warm lounge areas, mid-century furniture (for sale), and a small garden that can be seen through the floor-to-ceiling windows. A far cry from the humble long-sleeved-cotton-T-shirt ($56) beginnings, the boutique has hand-painted V-neck dresses ($265), leather button-front jackets ($795), and coyote-lined vests ($995).
