Profile

On a block lined with various greasy spoons, Siggy's hangs out the health-food shingle. Organic is the buzzword here; all of the produce and most of the restaurant's dairy products and grains meet USDA organic standards. Step inside and you’ll likely hear a blender whirring handfuls of fresh wheatgrass and fistfuls of fruit into smoothies. The small counter up front handles takeout orders as well as coffee and squeezed-to-order juice. Past this station are a dozen tightly packed tables, with a banquette along one egg-yolk-yellow wall and work (for sale) by neighborhood artists on the other. The menu trawls through easy pleasers: eggs any style, sandwiches, salads, and a handful of mostly vegetarian hot dishes. Though there's not much red meat to be had, carnivores can get a turkey burger or a curry chicken sandwich with a crunchy seam of cashews and apple. This is New Age nosh at its most basic.

Extra

That "aliens eat free" sign? They do hold to their word if you come dressed up like a green visitor from outer space. But having resident or naturalized alien citizenship status won't cut it—Gabriel Byrne already tried that.

We live in Brooklyn Heights and our saving grace in NYC's over-oily and overwrought food scene is this fabulously little eatery that reminds us the best of California cuisine. We've tried most things on the menu and let...Read More

I stopped by this establishment for some "good food" and as soon as I entered this quaint establishment all I could hear as I sat down was a beastly woman shouting at the staff for yawning, and basically kicking out customers...Read More
