Profile
While maps of their respective countries dot the red-and-orange walls, the culinary collaboration between English restaurateur Wendy Taylor and Guyanese-born chef Lyra Petrie turns out squarely Caribbean fare. Tender oxtail stew simmers in its own broth for a day; gently breaded salmon cakes are well-spiced. Too bad portions are small and sides like macaroni and cheese or canned corn are zapped in the microwave. If you’re hankering for homemade sweets, take a seat at one of the small storefront’s wrought-iron chairs or wooden benches and sip a cup of strong sorrel juice until the baked goods emerge from the oven. They’re worth the wait. For a savory meal on the go, the café’s Jamaican patties are fresh and plump.
Recommended DishesSalmon cake, $1.75; beef patties, $4.50; carrot cake, $3.50
