Far removed from Williamsburg’s trendy bars and restaurants, Hotel Le Jolie is sadly situated on a desolate strip next to the rumbling Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The hotel’s closest neighbor is an abandoned gas station that looks especially ominous at night; it’s no wonder the reception desk is behind a pane of protective glass. Guests can at least unwind once they’re tucked inside one of the 54 modern rooms. Comfortable and compact, each has a basic black-and-white palette and is outfitted with plush, allergen-free bedding, a large desk, and a cushy ergonomic chair. Thankfully, with little to do in the immediate area, the rooms are equipped with a 42-inch plasma, in-room movies, an iPod docking station, and free Wi-Fi. Yet all of these are probably meant to distract from the cars whizzing past the window: The worst views looks directly down at the BQE, while the best showcase the Manhattan skyline from afar.
