Profile

You would expect nothing less than utter sumptuousness and teams of visitors at the grand Art Deco Waldorf=Astoria, and that extends to Kenneth’s, the hotel’s in-house salon. A red taffeta-paneled entryway leads to a labyrinthine space that reveals several hair washing, styling, and coloring rooms. Manicure stations are set up beyond the orange marble reception desk, but most of the staff nail artists roam throughout the salon, where brick-colored walls are offset by sky blue ceilings, painted murals, parquet floors, and handsome period-piece stylists’ stations. With 54 staff members and a steady stream of regular clients—that’s in addition to hotel guests—the salon bustles under the twinkling eye of its surprisingly young creative director, Kevin Lee, who’s been there for more than twenty years. Kenneth’s caters to an intergenerational crowd, encompassing both charity-function ladies and their socialite spawn; name a benefit, and a Kenneth’s stylist has probably prepared the fabulously tousled tresses of at least three of the benefactresses.
