Profile
Husband-and-wife real estate execs Mira and Alex Goldin visited world-renowned spa towns in France, Russia, and Turkey while developing the concept for their first spa venture, opened in March 2006. As a result, Body by Brooklyn feels like a decadent mix of all three cultures, and its combination of spa, bathhouse, and restaurant and bar is unlike nearly anything else in the city. Located on the ground floor, near a converted chocolate factory (also owned by the Goldins) in Clinton Hill, the 10,000-square-foot space incorporates a traditional banya (with three saunas, Jacuzzi, and cold plunge), ten wet/dry massage rooms, and a futuristic bar-café, where hungry spa-goers can refuel on salads, sandwiches, and brunch offerings. The treatment menu runs as long as the nearby BQE—facials and waxing too!—but the standouts are the bath and body options. Not for the faint of heart (or the modest), both the Red Flower Hammam or the traditional Platza—wherein you’re steamed, soaked, and beaten with oak leaves—will leave you supple and glowing for days. High-rollers book the Studio Suite, a stunning corner spot featuring a private Jacuzzi, steam room, couch, and plasma TV. Available for groups and events, the suite comes with hors d'oeuvres and a complimentary bottle of champagne.
NoteTuesdays are for men only.

While the rest of the city scurries up and down Broadway, these three micro–shopping districts remain blissfully unpicked-over.
