Profile

Camouflaged by its corner apartment digs, this beautiful hideaway comes to life with a laid-back, stylish crowd and owner Benjamin Shih's attention to crisply evocative details. Shih, the bartender who opened the neighborhood's popular Sweet Ups, draws on his first location's understated romantic look, using glossy, voluptuous oxblood banquettes and white-on-chocolate flocked velvet walls. The knowing charm extends into the large, Paris-in-the-'20s-flavored back room—updated with DJs, rock bands and weekly karaoke nights—and the walled-off, group-friendly alcove with a wraparound banquette. The bar's fans are pure, scruffy Williamsburg, and the drinks, including a delicious Bramble with fresh berries, are Brooklyn-priced.
