Profile
Working in the Manchu Qing court in the seventeenth century, Wang Hui synthesized ancient techniques to create a sublime new style of landscape painting; his emperor was so pleased, he presented Wang with a calligraphy declaring them "landscapes clear and radiant." In the Met's show by that name, 27 paintings trace Wang's ascent from eager student to revered master and imperial favorite.
